The next “department” is…well, mine. Hello, my name is Mel. Welcome to marketing for hats.com! What’s marketing? Hmm…good question. Marketing is such a vague and elusive term to those outside the industry. In truth, marketing is a blend of receptacles and processes all leading to one glorious end: improving brand recognition and sales. My duty is to bridge the gap between the company and you. Now that I put it that way, my job doesn’t sound quite as fun anymore.
Let’s put it in different terms: what do I do in a day? I develop the social media for hats.com – such as this blog, our facebook, twitter and more – and then use these great tools to create a personal connection to our consumers. Hats.com is a URL, but it’s also a great group of people. Social media is how we show you that! Now, don’t get the wrong idea. I don’t sit here all day and play on facebook and twitter all day. I also work with Google Analytics and AdWords to analyze our sales and traffic, manage campaigns and plan upcoming marketing. I analyze data from past campaigns to develop our future plans, create schedules and new campaigns. I also code our HTML emails and help with graphics. Twice a week, you can get a glorious handcrafted email from yours truly. Isn’t that a good enough reason to sign up? (Just kidding. No, really. Sign up.)
All in all, my job is really just a hodgepodge of things (similar to the compilation of action heros and figurines on my desk) all somehow working together to get things done. Whether I’m in excel creating spreadsheets to monitor different campaigns, creating calendars of the blog posts for the rest of the year (what can I say, I’m a planner) or if I’m just searching google for the latest hat-related news, I’m part of the magic that is hats.com.
